Salt Water Paper
2010, Copenhagen
This project draws on inspiration from phenomena as diverse as the female body, the sea and the being and non-being of all living and dying creatures. For its realisation, Veronica Hodges created delicate paper dresses in papier maché rubbed with salt. The dresses, that exhibited lumps and distorted proportions at times, were worn into the sea by women in a performance. As a result, the delicate creations dissolved into nothing in the water, mirroring the artist’s fascination with the philosophical space between materiality and nothingness.
